It was London’s first loss in Owen Sound since February 2023, ending a nine-game winning streak in the building.

The magic that ended the streak may have come from further back.

All night, the Attack paid tribute to the 1927 Owen Sound Greys, wearing commemorative uniforms and using the Greys name on the scoreboard.

Owen Sound won the Memorial Cup that year.

The Knights started well. They had big early chances, including a two-man advantage, and outshot the Attack 15-6 in the first period.

Rookie goaltender Maks Corovic kept every one of those shots out.

Corovic’s biggest save came on Jaxon Cover, who was set up by Marcus Nordmark.

He turned aside everything else London threw at him on three early power plays.

Knights captain Ryan Brown pointed to those chances after the game.
“We obviously want to score on the 5-on-3. It’s huge. I think we let it slip away from us a bit because we’ve got a lot more to show.”

Special teams have been a challenge for the Knights this season. Brown says you can’t dwell on what isn’t working, and you have to go out and make things happen.

“It goes both ways. We had power plays to capitalize on. And they had them too, but they capitalized on their chances.”

The game stayed scoreless until 3:14 of the second period.

That’s when the newest member of the Attack, Adrian Manzo, wristed a shot into the London net from the right side.

The Knights answered just over two minutes later. Carson Harmer drove hard to the net and beat Corovic stick side for his fifth goal of the season.

Corovic left the game at 13:40 of the second after a scrum in front of his net. The Stoney Creek, Ont., native stayed down and left the ice unable to put any weight on his left leg.

He was replaced by veteran overager Ryerson Leenders.

At 19:07 of the second, London’s Cody Wood and Owen Sound’s Dillon Atkinson dropped the gloves. Other players joined in, and more punches were thrown.

Once everything was sorted out, Knights forward Brody Leet received a five-minute major and a game misconduct for fighting after the original bout. Leet had been a target of the Attack since a big hit on rookie defenceman Max Fransen in the first period. No opposite fighting major was handed out on the Owen Sound side leaving the Attack with a five-minute man advantage.
The penalty carried over to start the third, and Owen Sound took advantage.

Power-play goals from Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Harry Nansi and defenceman John Banks put the Attack ahead 3-1 and swung the momentum entirely their way.

Alexander Lisi made it 4-1 less than five minutes later, and Owen Sound captain Pierce Mbuyi added an empty-net goal.

After losing four straight, the Attack have now picked up five of a possible six points in their past three games.

London outshot Owen Sound 34-30. The Knights went 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Attack went 2-for-4.
