Ducks first round pick Marcus Nordmark has arrived in London

When the London Knights selected Marcus Nordmark in the 2025 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft there was no guarantee he would ever play for London.

There was already a great connection between his family and the Hunter family but that doesn’t always connect two dots with a straight line. Marcus’s father Robert and Knights General Manager Mark Hunter were teammates with the St. Louis Blues in 1987-88.

Mark was a veteran who scored 32 goals and finished fourth in Blues scoring.

Robert was getting his first taste of the National Hockey League after decided to head to North America from Sweden.

The Blues made it to the second round that season but the next year Mark Hunter wound up in Calgary where he helped the Flames win the Stanley Cup and Robert Nordmark went off to Vancouver.

The two would men would then come together just shy of 30 years later on the hockey operations side of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Hunter was the Director of Player Personnel and Nordmark was a European Scout.

Now the Normarks and the Hunters have come together a third time in their careers.

Marcus Nordmark has been assigned to the Knights by the Anaheim Ducks and will play the 2026-27 OHL season in London.

“Marcus kind of dropped out of the sky here,” said Mark Hunter. “At one time he wasn’t coming and now he is and it’s going to be exciting to watch him grow and develop as a hockey player.”

Marcus Nordmark played last year with Djurgaardens U18 team where he had 38 points in 25 games and then absolutely exploded offensively in the playoffs with 23 points in just 11 games.

Nordmark also played eight games in the Swedish Hockey League with Djurgaardens pro club.

“My dad took me to the ice rink when I was young and I couldn’t wait to get back out there to practice or play from that moment on,” Marcus described.

The 18-year old watches former Knight Matthew Tkachuk closely and does his best to emulate the physicality and involvement in the play that Tkachuk brings. Nordmark also has his mind set on a big goal.

“I want to come and win a Memorial Cup here.”

The Knights are off to a 2-0 start to the season and Nordmark is expected to make his debut on Sept. 25 against the Owen Sound Attack at Canada Life Place.

“We have the makings of a good hockey club,” Hunter described with some caution. “You can have all of the individual skill possible but it has to lead to team play and teamwork and we have to put that all together.”

Nordmark stands to become a very big piece of that.
