London and area boxers bring home hardware from 2026 Golden Gloves Provincial championships
Seven London-area boxers from Boomerz Boxing Club came home with medals from the 2026 Golden Gloves provincial championships. The event ran Oct. 15-17 in Brampton, Ont.
“We are so proud,” said Boomerz Boxing coach Brett Lucier. “Four boxers from Boomerz were brand new to competing at this level.”
Tiara Brazier was one of those fighters. She claimed gold in the U17 female 54 kg class.
Yazan Meqdad won gold in the Jr. C male open weight class.
One of the best and closest fights of championship day pitted two national team members against each other. Cassius Smith of Boomerz and Partap Dosanj of King of the Ring Boxing in Brampton went head-to-head and fought to a split decision.
The two represented Canada in Oklahoma City in July and have become close friends. Dosanj is a multi-time national champion, but he moved up a weight class for this tournament. That’s what put him in the ring with Smith.
Dosanj took the first round 5-0. Smith answered, winning the next two rounds 3-2 and 4-1.
By the narrowest of margins, Dosanj was declared the winner and took home gold. Smith earned silver.
The final scorecard comes down to all five judges' total scores.
The next time they meet could very well be at nationals, with an even bigger prize on the line.
Alejandro Rodas and Calista Brazier also won silver. Calista was edged in the U19 female 54 kg final by Hazel Pevere of Beaver Boxing Club in Ottawa.
Rodas reached the final in the U19 male 55 kg class, which earned him a spot at nationals.
Matteo Chea-Alves won bronze in the male open 80 kg event.
“We have four tired coaches, but four super happy coaches,” Lucier said with a laugh.
All six gold and silver medallists have automatically qualified for the 2027 Youth National Championships. Chea-Alves could still get in as a wild card.
