By the end of the day, Western and Fanshawe athletes had a sack of medals that would have put some Halloween candy hauls to shame.

The Fanshawe women’s cross-country team of Grace Boyce, Regan Dewinter, Shylah Graham and Paige Taylor brought home silver, finishing just five points behind gold medallist Lambton.

The Falcons men finished just outside the medals, fourth in the team standings.

Alex Leinweber still grabbed an individual bronze, with teammate Mark Royce right on his heels. Ezra Bender, Jaycob Sietzma, Matthew Lindsay and Adam Voisey rounded out Fanshawe’s finishers.

Western’s men’s team of Robin Faricier, Liam Smith, Eitan Garfin-Udaskin, Kirk Hallman, Tom Boers and Satveer Gill captured bronze. Every member of the team finished inside the top 30.

The Mustangs women’s team of Brooke Power, Nora Teleaven, Zaira Chaudhry, Erika Gordon, Avery Norland, Julie DeBoer and Juliana Hendrikx finished fifth.

The U Sports cross-country championships are Nov. 14 at Christie Lake Conservation Area in Hamilton and both Western teams have qualified.

On the water, the Mustangs won team silver on both the women’s and men’s sides, and Western’s Oliver Baker was named Men’s Athlete of the Year.

Baker won the varsity single (M1x) and also rowed in the varsity eight, which took gold as well.

The Queen’s Gaels were crowned champions on both the men’s and women’s sides.
