Soccer honours for the Fanshawe Falcons as women's season ends and men advance to semis
Londoner Deseron MacLean is the OCAA Player of the Year in men’s soccer.
MacLean led the league in scoring. He added another goal in Fanshawe’s 3-1 win over Seneca on Oct. 24, which moves the Falcons into an OCAA semi-final against George Brown on Thursday, Oct. 29.
MacLean finished with 15 goals, three shy of Steve Goodwin’s record of 18, which has stood since 1969.
MacLean was also named OCAA West Division Player of the Year and a West Division first-team all-star.
The awards for Fanshawe didn’t stop there. The Falcons were named the West Division’s best defensive team after allowing just three goals in 10 games on the way to a 9-0-1 record.
Londoners Camilo Venegas Alfaro, Carlos Cabral and Jack Serratore were also named West Division first-team all-stars.
Londoner Matteo Marek and Darius Darling of Cambridge, Ont. were named second-team all-stars.
Venegas Alfaro and Marek were also selected to the all-rookie team.
Falcons women’s soccer team eliminated in quarter-finals by undefeated Mohawk
Fanshawe’s women’s soccer team put up a valiant effort against the Mohawk Mountaineers on Oct. 24, but fell 2-0 to end their season.
The 2026 season will be remembered for a number of performances. The biggest came at Algonquin, where Lily Ryder scored in stoppage time to win the match 2-1 and send the Falcons to the quarter-finals. The goal came after an incredible run from Annika Thompson.
Four players came away with OCAA hardware.
Miriam Wambulwa of Niagara Falls, Ont., was named a West Division first-team all-star for the first time in her career.
Ryder, from St. Thomas, Ont., and Natalia Diaz of Villavicencio, Colombia, earned second-team all-star honours. Londoner Reagan Roberts was named to the West Division all-rookie team.
